About
I am a marine biologist specialising in octocoral taxonomy, biodiversity assessments, and stakeholder-led conservation planning. My work has advanced the state of the art in documenting India’s poorly known gorgonian fauna, developing conservation priorities, and linking biodiversity science with marine policy. I have published 5 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, including Zootaxa (comprehensive taxonomic revision of Indian gorgonians), Biological Conservation (policy-relevant COVID-19 impacts on biodiversity research), and Nature (commentary on equity in science). Collectively, these contributions have attracted 41 citations (Google Scholar, July 2025) with an h-index of 3. I have secured >$42,000 in competitive research funding, including from Global Environment Facility, Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, Rufford Foundation, PADI Foundation, and IDEA WILD. My leadership has enabled India’s first gorgonian conservation workshop, long-term monitoring networks in Mumbai and Lakshadweep, and multiple stakeholder dialogues. Recognition of my work includes selection as a United People Global (UPG) Sustainability Leader in the 2025 cohort. I have delivered invited talks and coordinated workshops, and contributed curated biodiversity datasets to global repositories (OBIS/WoRMS). These achievements reflect my role as an emerging researcher bridging taxonomy, ecology, and conservation policy at both national and global scales
