About

Dr. Singh is an accomplished crop scientist and academician currently serving as Assistant Professor-cum-Junior Scientist (Senior Scale) in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Bihar Agricultural University. With over 13 years of teaching and 15 years of research experience, he has developed strong expertise in plant breeding, molecular breeding, and rice improvement. He completed his Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Banaras Hindu University in 2016 under the prestigious DST-INSPIRE Fellowship, focusing on the marker-assisted improvement of aromatic rice for bacterial leaf blight (BLB) resistance. He obtained his M.Sc. (Ag.) in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, where he was awarded the University Gold Medal. He also qualified the ASRB-NET examination in 2012 on his first attempt.

His research primarily focuses on the genetic improvement of rice and other crops using a combination of conventional breeding, marker-assisted selection, and biotechnological approaches. His work aims to enhance yield potential, grain quality, aroma, and resistance to major biotic and abiotic stresses. Dr. Singh has made significant contributions to varietal development, having developed and released 18 crop varieties and hybrids, including 9 varieties notified at the national level by the Central Variety Release Committee (CVRC) and others at the state level. These improved varieties have played an important role in replacing older mega rice varieties.

Dr. Singh has successfully secured research funding of approximately ₹32 crore from leading national and international agencies such as ICAR, DBT, IRRI, BMGF, DST-SERB, and RKVY-RAFTAAR. Through these projects, he has established advanced molecular breeding and tissue culture laboratories, significantly strengthening research infrastructure and capacity in eastern India.

He has an impressive publication record, with 52 research papers in reputed national and international journals, including high-impact SCI/NAAS-rated journals. In addition, he has authored 49 books and book chapters, 25 technical bulletins, and 43 extension articles. His research has received over 1200 citations, with an H-index of 19, reflecting his substantial academic impact.

He has received several prestigious awards, including the DST-SERB-TARE Fellowship, Best Researcher Award (2023), and Best Teacher Award (2022) from Bihar Agricultural University, along with multiple Young Scientist and Best Presentation Awards at national and international conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for reputed international journals.

In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Singh is deeply engaged in extension activities, including organizing national conferences, workshops, and farmer training programs. He has conducted large-scale varietal demonstrations and more than 970 mini-kit trials in farmers’ fields across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, contributing significantly to technology dissemination and strengthening research–farmer linkages.
