About
Dr. Nayab Hussain is a dedicated researcher whose work primarily focuses on the intersection of electroanalytical chemistry and advanced materials for (bio)sensing applications. He is now highly enthusiastic about innovating electrochemical (bio)sensing modalities for health diagnostics, MIP and hydrogel-based platforms, wearables, POCT and energy harvesting.
He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry (2016) and M.Sc. in Chemistry (2018) from Gauhati University, Assam, India, supported by the DST-INSPIRE scholarship (Government of India) during both degrees. After his M.Sc., he served as an ad hoc teacher at Darrang College, Tezpur, Assam, India, from August 2018 to April 2019.
In July 2019, he joined the Ph.D. program in the Department of Chemical Sciences, Tezpur University, Assam, India. During his Ph.D. tenure, he was awarded the DST-INSPIRE fellowship (under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India) from 2019 to 2024, and the 'Research and Innovation Grant (2020-2021) from R&D sector, Tezpur University. He progressed from Junior Research Fellow (2019–2023) to Senior Research Fellow (2023–2024), culminating in the award of his Ph.D. in April 2025. His doctoral thesis focused on developing novel methods for voltammetric/impedimetric detection of the renal function biomarker, creatinine, in biological fluids. He pioneered approaches based on organic conversions and metal coordination for prior transformation of the electrochemically inactive analyte to electroactive species, and also designed MIP platforms with target-specific pockets, enabling sensing. He has further contributed to several collaborative works on developing electrochemical biosensors for other clinical markers and pesticide detection, energy-storage materials for flexible devices and bifunctional electrocatalysts for OER/ORR. Additionally, he has worked and co-supervised M.Sc. project students and junior Ph.D. research scholars in the area of synthesising and characterising soft materials like bio-waste-based hydrogels, demonstrating their applications in packaging and agricultural soil.
So far, he has authored/co-authored 10 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, with current citations of 147 and an h-index of 7. He has gained extensive hands-on experience in operating the electrochemical workstation; synthesizing nanomaterials, composites, MIP and hydrogels; modifying electrode surfaces with electroactive materials and immobilised biorecognition molecules; optimising conditions and tackling complex matrices to improve signal efficiency.
Currently (from August 2026), he is serving as a Guest Faculty in the Chemistry Department, Darrang College, Assam, India, teaching Physical Chemistry and conducting practical sessions for postgraduate and undergraduate students.
