About

Professor Zia Ul Haq (MBBS; MPH; PhD Public Health, University of Glasgow; Post-Doc, Keele University; FPH, Royal Colleges UK; FCPS Community Medicine) is Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar,one of Pakistan's largest public medical universities with 26 postgraduate institutes and approximately 74,000 students and concurrently Vice Chancellor of Islamia College University, Peshawar. He is Meritorious Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Social Sciences, and Visiting Professor at the University of Glasgow.
With over 110 peer-reviewed publications, 2,800+ citations, and an H-index of 25, his research spans infectious disease epidemiology, multimorbidity, mental health, public health nutrition, and health systems strengthening. He has secured research funding exceeding 6 billion PKR from NIHR, MRC, WHO, UNICEF, WFP, the World Bank, and other international agencies, and serves as Principal Investigator on multiple active NIHR Global Health grants.
Nationally, he has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan (2024), the HEC Best Researcher Award (2019), the HEC Best University Teacher Award (2018), and the University of Glasgow World Changing Alumni Award (2023). He is President of the Pakistan Network of Quality Assurance in Higher Education (PNQAHE) and Director of the WHO Regional Network of Institutions for Evidence and Data to Policy (NEDtP).
