About
R. K. Pongiannan received the B.E. degree from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, in 1995, M.E. degree from the PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore in 2004, and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) in 2012. He has 23 years of academic experience and 6 years of industry experience..
He has an experience of 6 years the motor pump manufacturing industry and presently consultant for design and product development for motor-pump manufacturing industries. His works includes the testing of motors and pumps as per BIS specifications, developing new design as per market requirement. During the tenure as an academician in the past 23 years, he has executed many industry consultancy projects. One is development of 0.5 hp and 1 hp open well submersible motor-pump (for SS Foundry, Coimbatore) and first product ISI certification in India. Also, a high frequency design of submersible pump with a VSI based controller to operate in high head applications.He has developed a electronic motor protector for domestic and agriculture pumps up to 25 hp. Apart from motor-pumps, he has developed a fast response solenoid valve , unmanned pump house (pump house automation for replacement of pump house operator in public sector organisation), farm automations, and products for textile spinning and power loom machines. He has carried out energy audit works at spinning mills, process industries and educational institutions. During his research at JNTUH, he has developed efficient PWM control schemes using FPGA for VSI, and published paper in IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics. He is the author or co-author of more than 30 papers in international journals and conferences.
Presently he is Professor in department Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai.Hisresearch interests include power electronics, ac drives, FPGA based control and embedded systems.
