About
Ajoy Kumer is a highly esteemed, globally recognized, and multidisciplinary Iconic Scientist, Next Wave of Innovator even Inventor, Collaborative Research Leader, and Educationalist, with exceptional expertise spanning Organic Synthetic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD), Computational Materials Science, and Computational Nanomaterials, besides the synthetic technique of Ionic Liquids.
He is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the reputed IUBAT—International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. In this role, he continues to advance his academic journey while mentoring the next generation of scientists.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kumer held several significant academic and industry roles. From May 2016 to July 31, 2023, he served at the European University of Bangladesh, where he progressed through positions as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and ultimately Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In addition to academia, he gained valuable industrial experience as an Assistant Executive at SGS Bangladesh Ltd., a renowned multinational company specializing in third-party laboratory testing services.
Recognized internationally for his expertise, Mr. Kumer holds an honorary position as Assistant Professor with the Novel Global Community Education Foundation (NGCEF), Australia. He also contributes actively to the academic publishing landscape as an editorial board member of three international journals, associate editor of a peer-reviewed journal, and reviewer for more than 90 ISI and Scopus-indexed journals.
Mr. Kumer has an impressive academic background. He earned a B.Sc. (Honours) in 2014 and an M.S. by Research in 2016 from the University of Chittagong, followed by an MPhil in Organic Chemistry from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2019. His postgraduate research focused on the synthesis, purification, and biological applications of Ionic Liquids as next-generation engineered solvents, in addition to computational investigations into their properties—resulting in several publications in reputed scientific journals.
At workstation, Mr. Kumer established the Laboratory of Computational Research for Drug Design and Material Science, which is equipped with over 17 advanced simulation software platforms. Over the past four years, he has authored 133 original research articles, received three patents, and achieved a strong h-index on Google Scholar, establishing his prominence as a research leader in his field. His excellence in research has earned him invitations to speak at numerous national and international conferences, where he has presented as a keynote and invited speaker. He has also led more than 10 national and international workshops including University of Dhaka, and BUET on Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) as a principal trainer.
In addition to his academic and scientific contributions, Mr. Kumer has supported the agricultural pharmaceutical industry as a Consulting Scientist in Research and Development, where he played a pivotal role in formulating and improving several agro-based drugs now available in the market.
Beyond the lab, Mr. Kumer is also dedicated to social causes. He is the founder and General Secretary of the Scientific Foundation for Cancer Research, Bangladesh, through which he promotes cancer research and awareness nationwide.
In his personal life, Mr. Kumer enjoys traveling by train, often accompanied by reading novels or science books. He also has a passion for fishing and exploring agricultural landscapes in the countryside.
