Research Contribution:
I have made significant research contributions towards the advancement of science and technology especially in the field of Animal Sciences (Zoology) for last three decades besides teaching at the under graduate and post graduate levels. My primary area of research includes Fisheries Sciences, Aquatic Toxicology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences. The major findings of my research are assessment and characterization of the toxic effects of diverse pollutants on fish and aquatic ecosystem. I dealt with heavy metals and metalloids, surfactants, pesticides, xenobiotics (different organic acids like acetic acid, lactic acid and benzoic acid) as well as different toxic chemicals (like tannin, ethanol, methanol, phenol, benzene, thiocyanate, factory effluents, Poly aromatic hydrocarbons) and their effects on fish and aquatic eco system. These toxic substances are continuously poured in the ecosystem due to various unavoidable anthropogenic activities. I, therefore, also determined the safe levels of these toxicants, which could be very useful in monitoring pollution level and to take necessary measures for controlling the toxicants. I have further identified bioremediation methodologies for the detoxification of several toxicants like benzene, sodium lauryl sulfate, methanol, ethanol and phenol by using plant extracts and microorganisms. Currently, I am focusing on development of bioremediation technology for Arsenic, Selenium, Fluoride, Cadmium, Nickel, Mercury, Lead and Chromium toxicity. These findings have immense translational potential for the human health as well.
During the entire period 18 research scholars have obtained their Ph.D. degree. I have published more than 200 scientific articles in different national and international indexed journals. I also server as reviewer in different journals indexed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science etc.
