About
Prof. (Dr.) Narsi Ram Bishnoi is a distinguished academician, researcher, and academic administrator with more than three decades of experience in environmental science, engineering, research, and higher education management. He currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUS&T), Hisar, Haryana, India.
Born on 8 June 1961 in Jandwala Bishnoian village of Sirsa district, Haryana, Prof. Bishnoi completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar. He served as Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering at GJUS&T for over 15 years before his retirement and made significant contributions to teaching, research, and institutional development.
During his distinguished academic career, he held several key leadership positions at GJUS&T, including Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Non-Conventional Sources of Energy and Environmental Sciences, Dean of College, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Dean of Research. He also served as Coordinator of the DST-FIST Programme and the Central Instrumentation Laboratory, contributing substantially to the strengthening of research infrastructure and scientific capabilities at the university.
His research interests encompass Environmental Science & Engineering, Bioenergy, Pollution Abatement and Bioremediation. Prof. Bishnoi has supervised 25 Ph.D. scholars and 78 M.Tech. dissertations and has published around 170 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He has successfully completed several research and development projects funded by agencies such as UGC, AICTE, DST, and HSCST.
Prof. Bishnoi has received national and international recognition for his scholarly contributions. He was listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University, USA, in 2020, 2021, and 2022 and was recognized among the World's Top 5% Scientists in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry. His research impact is reflected in more than 8,438 Google Scholar citations (h-index: 50; i10-index: 105) and over 5,305 Scopus citations with a Scopus h-index of 41.
His achievements have been honored through several prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award (2025) from the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Varanasi, the Lifetime Achievement Award (2024) from the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI-India), the NESA Fellowship Award (2021), Best Scientist Award (NESA-2015), Dr. S.A. Salgare's Best Scientist Award (2019), and the Rashtriya Gaurav Award (2010).
He has served as a member of the Executive Council and Academic Council of GJUS&T, a member of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, and a member/expert of numerous academic and professional bodies at national and state levels. He has also established extensive collaborations with leading national and international universities and research institutions.
