Col. Prof. Hemlata K. Bagla is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator, currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of HSNC University, Mumbai. With over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and institutional leadership, she has made significant contributions to the fields of Nuclear and Radiochemistry, environmental science, and interdisciplinary research.
Born on 19th February 1970, she completed her Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the Institute of Science, Mumbai. She secured First Rank in M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) from the University of Mumbai, reflecting her strong academic foundation.
Prof. Bagla began her academic career in 1991 and has served in various capacities at K. C. College, including Lecturer, Associate Professor, Vice-Principal, and Principal. She has also been Head of the Department of Chemistry since 1997. Her leadership roles further include Senior Dean (Science & Technology), Director of the Niranjan Hiranandani School of Real Estate (additional charge), and Hon. Director of K. C. College of Management Studies.
A renowned researcher, her areas of expertise include Nuclear and Radiochemistry, biosorption, nanotechnology, environmental remediation, and neutron activation analysis. She has published over 40 research papers in reputed journals, presented extensively at national and international conferences, and contributed to books and academic proceedings. Her research is recognized by international bodies such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Prof. Bagla has led several major research projects, including international collaborations with IAEA and national initiatives under UGC-DAE and the National Technical Textile Mission. She has also supervised numerous Ph.D. and postgraduate research scholars, contributing significantly to academic mentorship and research development.
An innovator at heart, she holds multiple patents in areas such as radiochemical detection, environmental remediation, wearable healthcare technologies, and robotics. Her work reflects a strong commitment to applying science for societal benefit.
Her excellence has been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including recognition by the Honourable President of India, the “50 Most Influential Principals of India” award, the Indo-Global Award for Research Excellence, and the Young Scientist Award in Nuclear and Radiochemistry. She has also been selected among leading scientists by international agencies and invited to global scientific forums.
Prof. Bagla actively contributes to academic and professional bodies as President of the Indian Chemical Society (Mumbai Branch) and as a member of various national and international scientific organizations. She has served as a reviewer for reputed journals and chaired NAAC accreditation visits across India, promoting quality in higher education.
