About
I am a materials chemist and Project Associate-II in the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Division at CSIR–Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), working at the interface of porous framework chemistry, adsorption science, and catalytic materials engineering. My research focuses on the rational design and post-synthetic engineering of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), zeolites, and functional porous materials for selective gas separation, CO₂ capture, and catalytic transformations.
My primary research contributions involve engineering confined pore microenvironments through linker functionalization, ion exchange, polymer incorporation, and framework-retentive post-synthetic modification to regulate adsorption energetics, host–guest interactions, and mass transport behavior. A major focus of my work is understanding how local coordination environments, pore accessibility, electronic structure, and surface basicity collectively govern CO₂ affinity and CO₂/N₂ selectivity, particularly in the low-pressure Henry’s law regime relevant to ultra-dilute carbon capture and direct air capture (DAC).
In parallel, I investigate cation-engineered zeolitic systems and heteroatom-functionalized porous carbons to establish comparative structure–property relationships across crystalline and partially disordered porous architectures. These studies aim to elucidate how electrostatic interactions, confinement effects, and functional group chemistry influence adsorption thermodynamics and dynamic separation performance.
A complementary research direction centers on MOF-integrated and MOF-derived catalytic systems for photocatalytic and redox-driven applications. This includes the incorporation of chromophoric and redox-active functionalities to modulate charge-transfer pathways and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation under visible-light irradiation for pollutant degradation and related catalytic transformations.
My research combines equilibrium and dynamic gas sorption analysis, adsorption thermodynamics, breakthrough separation studies, and advanced spectroscopic characterization techniques including FT-IR, XPS, UV–Vis, and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy to establish mechanistic understanding of guest–framework interactions and framework evolution following chemical modification. Beyond laboratory-scale materials synthesis, I am also engaged in scale-up processing of porous materials and structured adsorbent development through granulation and spheronization approaches.
My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including ACS Applied Nano Materials, Microporous and Mesoporous Materials etc., contributing to the development of chemically tunable porous materials for sustainable separations, adsorption-driven processes, and catalytic materials technologies.
