About

Dr. Nitish Kumar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, Bihar, India. Dr. Kumar completed his doctoral research from Council of Scientific & Industrial Research-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. He has published more than 70 research articles and book chapters in the leading International and National journals or books. Dr. Kumar focuses his research mainly on genetic improvement of medicinal plants by using the different biotechnological techniques such as plant tissue culture, transgenic plant development, molecular marker development and enhancement of secondary metabolites. He is also involved in bioremediation and phytoremediation of heavy metals. Currently, Dr. Kumar is working on enhancement of steviol glycoside biosynthesis and differential genes expression during steviol glycoside biosynthesis in stevia by applying the different types of biotic and abiotic stresses including nanoparticles. He has received many awards/fellowships/Project from various organizations, e.g. the CSIR, DBT, ICAR and SERB-DST, BRNS-BARC etc. He is an active reviewer for journals including Biotechnology Reports, Aquatic Botany, Industrial Crops and Products, PLOS ONE, Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 3Biotech etc. He is also an associate editor of the journal GENE (Elsevier).
