Born in Providence Rhode Island, USA, on January 13, 1953. Lived in Providence, Champagne Illinois, Alexandria Virginia, Arlington Virginia, Lexington Massachussettes, Chevy Chase Maryland, Cambridge Massachussettes. Spent a gap year, after high school in Israel at the Weizman Institute, Kibbutz Hazor Ashdod, the port of Eilat and on the ship Hahaluz. Got ScB, MS and PhD from Brown University with advisor James R Rice. Worked one year at the Earthquake Hazards reduction Lab, USGS, with James Dieterich in Menlo Park, CA. Professor at Cornell since Monday August 25, 1980. Was in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and now am in Mechanical Engineering.
