About

Amit studied for his B. Pharm. at the University of Saugor, Sagar, MP; and M. Pharm. in Pharmaceutics at Delhi University’s Hamdard College of Pharmacy. He briefly worked as a formulation scientist at Trends Pharma, Bombay and then at the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi. Amit’s Ph. D. was awarded by the Jawaharlal Nehru University for a thesis on pulsatile transdermal delivery of testosterone for male contraception. He then got a post-doctoral Young Scientist award from the DST for working on transdermal electroporation for immunisation. He has been working at the Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics Division of the CSIR Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, in various capacities since 1998. His research interests include pulmonary drug delivery in tuberculosis, with special reference to host-pathogen dialectics, particles targeting infected erythrocytes in malaria, a delivery system for use in Leishmaniasis in an outpatient setting, and chronopharmacologically relevant non-invasive contraception for men and women. Amit has received appreciation as an active research collaborator with several academic and industry-based research groups in India, and a few abroad. He also has academic and administrative responsibilities within his Institute. He has minor roles in almost all the Indian (and two international) science funding agencies, drug regulatory affairs (CDSCO), the Board of Governors, NIPER-Hajipur, Boards of Studies of several universities, the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Bureau of Industrial Standards (BIS), the Drug Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) and in the South Center, Geneva. Amit enjoys making disruptive comments in meetings addressing framing and monitoring the National Pharmaceutical Policy of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India and the Pharmaceuticals Policy of Uttar Pradesh. In 2017, he was made the Vice-President (India) of the Asian federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is a nasty peer-reviewer and has never been asked to join the editorial board of any journal he respects. Amit has published 68 papers as first- and/or corresponding author, apart from 15 popular science/sociology/economics general articles and has contributed seven book chapters. He sings Hindi-Urdu pop music (quite well) and plays the harmonica held in inverse
