About

Professor Akhila K. Sahoo is an academician and researcher in organic chemistry. He currently holds the position of Professor at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) since 2016. His academic career at the UoH began in 2007 as an Assistant Professor, and he was later promoted to Associate Professor in 2013.
Prof. Sahoo earned his Ph.D. from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India, in 2001, working under the guidance of Prof. Ganesh Pandey. Following his doctorate, he undertook extensive postdoctoral research in internationally acclaimed laboratories. His postdoctoral stints include working with Prof. H. J. Gais at RWTH Aachen, Germany (2002), followed by a JSPS fellowship with Prof. T. Hiyama (2002-2005) and then with Prof. A. Osuka (2005-2006) at the Kyoto University, Japan. Before returning to academia, he briefly worked in the industry as a Scientist & Group Leader at Sai Advantium Pharma Limited (2006-2007).
Professor Sahoo's research group aims to develop innovative and efficient synthetic methods for creating new molecular entities, focusing on C-H bond activation, chemistry on ynamides, and Lewis-acid-catalyzed transformations. His group also carry out work on the synthesis of nitro and nitrogen-rich insensitive high-energy materials.
His significant work, comprising over 120 research papers, is highly influential, with over 5,600 citations, an h-index of 46, and an i10-index of 90. His achievements are documented by several patents, including US, British, and European patents, primarily related to the synthesis of bile acids and their intermediates.
Professor Sahoo’s noteworthy contributions to science earned him to be elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), Indian Academy of Science (FASc), Indian National Science Academy (FNA) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSc).
