Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari is the Founding Director of the Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM), located in Ulrika, Sweden, and a Founding Member as well as Secretary-General of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM)—a non-profit scientific research organization representing over 100,000 members from more than 150 countries. Under his stewardship, IAAM emphasizes a global, multidisciplinary approach to advanced materials research and development, bridging academia, industry, policy, and civil society to foster innovation and sustainable solutions.
A visionary in net-zero research and green innovation, Dr. Tiwari established a climate-neutral campus and a “Living Natural Laboratory” in Ulrika. This groundbreaking model rejuvenates the local community by integrating an international science and technology center alongside skill-training programs in net-zero materials, renewable energy, and water–forest biodiversity. His waste-to-energy initiative, which focuses on converting biomass into advanced carbon materials such as graphene, underscores his commitment to renewable energy generation and circular-economy principles. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Tiwari champions specialized short courses and high-end skill development to equip communities and professionals with the knowledge needed to drive climate action.
Dr. Tiwari’s academic credentials include a DPhil in Science and a DSc (Docent) in Applied Physics, specializing in biosensors and bioelectronics. He has held influential positions in the USA, UK, Sweden, India, Japan, and China—serving as an advisor, scientist, adjunct professor, and high-end expert. His work has garnered prestigious fellowships and recognitions, including the Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Commission, JSPS Fellowships from Japan, a Research Associate position from the University of Wisconsin, USA, and a High-End Foreign Talents distinction in China.
A prolific author and editor, Dr. Tiwari has published around 500 articles and 50 books, earning an h-index of 55 with over 9,000 citations. Named among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists, he also holds multiple patents in materials, energy, nanotechnology, climate policy, and translational research. His recent book, Rolling Out Climate Neutral Materials & Sustainable Innovations, was launched at COP28 in Dubai, where he participated as an observer. Looking ahead to COP29 in Baku, Dr. Tiwari underscores the importance of climate financing, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and circular-economy mechanisms to achieve net-zero targets globally.
Throughout his 25-year career, Dr. Tiwari has led numerous environmental, industrial, educational, and health projects across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. As Chair of IAAM’s delegation at the United Nations 2023 Water Conference in New York, he spearheaded discussions on water sustainability and climate resilience, culminating in his chairmanship of the “W119 Climate Resilience: Addressing Drought and Floods” session. He subsequently guided IAAM’s delegation at the “Beyond Pact the Future: Local Action, Global Progress for SDGs Acceleration” conference in December 2024 at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland—further reflecting his commitment to advancing policies for sustainable development.
Dr. Tiwari also serves as the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors at VBRI Group, a technology company dedicated to global sustainability goals. His holistic vision—integrating advanced materials research, circular and carbon-neutral processes, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and climate-focused policy—positions him as a leading force in shaping the global discourse on net-zero innovation and climate-efficient technology.
