Dr. Swati Joshi is a transdisciplinary Beckett and Care Studies researcher whose research explores care crisis in the clinical and nonclinical (cultural and waste-management) spaces, care and/in confinement, and coping mechanisms in confinement (spatial and phenomenological). Her Ph.D. thesis, Samuel Beckett and Carescapes (2023), conceptualised clinical and non-clinical care models informed by the comparative analysis of Samuel Beckett's oeuvre (including doodles) and the contemporary English and French authors who resurrect the Irish-French playwright as an ailing character. Since 2024, Dr. Joshi been curating online Beckett seminars supported by The Samuel Beckett Society. Her interdisciplinary research has been published in the top-tier peer-reviewed journals like Medical Humanities(BMJ), Journal of Medical Humanities, Humanities(MDPI), among other places. She has also published book chapters in the edited volume, Beckett and Nature (Bloomsbury Academic), and Handbook of Aging, Health and Public Policy: Perspectives from Asia (Springer). In 2023, Dr. Joshi was awarded 3000GBP as an International Visiting Doctoral Researcher by the Institute of Advanced Studies, Loughborough University. In 2022, Wellcome Trust London commissioned her artistic autopathography, Documents of my breath, for which she was awarded 835 GBP. In 2022, she also received an honorarium of 325 CAD from Ars Medica, for her short story, Gyrations. In 2025, the Journal of Medical Humanities launched the special issue she guest edited with Dr. Jade Elizabeth French, Loughborough University. Dr. Joshi can speak 3 Indian languages besides English and French (B2 from Alliance Française Ahmedabad, 2016).
