About

Dr. Vimala Sridurai
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow
University of Manchester, United Kingdom

Dr. Vimala Sridurai is an accomplished researcher in the field of soft matter physics, currently leading research as Marie Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Manchester. With over 13 years of extensive experience in soft condensed matter and liquid crystal (LC) systems, she has dedicated the last 8 years to pioneering research in soft photonics and active optical metamaterials.

Her current research at the University of Manchester focuses on the intersection of liquid crystal self-assembly and nanophotonics. Dr. Vimala’s expertise spans the development of LC based LC based tunable optical/ electrooptical/ photonic systems, nanoparticle-doped LC systems, and the experimental observation of complex phenomena such as Fano resonance, Epsilon Near Zero in hybrid metamaterials. Her work is characterized by a sophisticated integration of high-performance finite-element method (FEM) simulations and advanced spectroscopic analysis, particularly in the study of nematic and chiral liquid crystal based nanoscale architectures.

Beyond her academic research, Dr. Sridurai is a recognized leader within the international scientific community. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) UK Chapter, where she drives strategic initiatives for researcher mobility and professional development across the United Kingdom. Her commitment to the broader scientific landscape is further evidenced by her role as an Editorial Board Member for the journal Advanced Metamaterials, where she contributes to the thematic development and peer-review excellence of the field. She also serves as the Organizing Committee for the upcoming UK Metamaterials Network (UKMMN) Early Career Researcher (ECR) Conference. In this capacity, she works to bridge the gap between academic innovation and institutional networking, fostering the next generation of materials scientists. She is also an active member of the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team (SAT) career progression subgroup, University of Manchester, where she champions inclusive leadership in STEM.

Through her multifaceted roles in research, science leadership and mentoring, Dr. Vimala Sridurai contributes towards shaping the future of research in soft photonics and active metamaterial systems.
