About
Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Sharma belongs to Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Agricultural Research Service 1995-batch; and is currently working as Principal Scientist and Professor of Computer Applications in Agriculture at ICAR - National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed to be University) Karnal, Haryana, India. Formerly, he was Officer-in-Charge (Head) of the Institute's Computer Centre. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Vision, e-Learning, Image Analysis, Intelligent Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning Algorithms, Soft Computing, Statistical Computing with MATLAB/ Python/ R/ SAS/ WEKA programming tools, Web-enabled Interactive Information Systems/ERP systems, etc. He has successfully completed several research projects funded by many agencies such as the World Bank, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Govt. of India, etc. He is currently studying/advising students to assess application potential of deep learning models and machine learning algorithms in various scientific and industrial applications, i.e., AI-driven real-time monitoring and predictive control system for yoghurt fermentation; image analysis as a non-invasive approach to monitor yogurt fermentation by analyzing color parameters and indices; bridging accuracy and interpretability of black-box models using hybrid deep learning approach to climate change impact on milk production in India; Computer vision based bovine biometrics app for real-time automated individual Identification of Sahiwal cattle (Bos indicus) using muzzle as biometric marker; moisture sorption isotherms of several Indian dairy and food products; classification of healthy vs. mastitis Murrah buffaloes based on electro-chemical properties of milk; and bulls' fertility in Murrah buffaloes. His research findings have been published in various leading international journals of high repute. He is teaching two courses to PhD/Masters scholars, i.e., Operations Research, and Data Analysis using Statistical Packages; and two courses to UG students (Dairy Technology/ Food Technology/ Biotechnology), i.e., Agricultural Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, and ICT in Dairy Industry. He had been/is member of advisory boards of many doctoral and master's candidates for supervising/guiding their theses. He is reviewer and/or member of Editorial Boards of several computer science (artificial intelligence) journals. He is life member of various computer science and statistics associations. He has rich experience in management of Computer Centre including human resource.
