About

Ashokan Arumugam is an Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapist with a special interest in biomechanical analyses of muscle activity and joint motion of the lower limbs and associated brain activation patterns in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament injuries and knee-healthy controls and athletes. He received his PhD from the School of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago, New Zealand in August 2014. Currently, he is employed as an Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy at University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Physiotherapy (2016-2018) at the Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation, Umeå University, Sweden. He is an avid researcher and had worked as a clinician and/or an academic in various capacities at some institutions in India, New Zealand and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is a member of Editorial Board or International Editorial Advisory Board of nine journals. He has received several awards for his academic achievements including, but not limited to, "Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing - 2017 ('Musculoskeletal Science and Practice' and 'Physical Therapy in Sport')", University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship (2010-2013), two awards for teaching activities (2011, 2012) from the Department of Anatomy, Otago School of Medical Sciences (New Zealand), and Scroll of Honor Award (2013) from Saveetha University (India). He has been a resource person for seminars/workshops on 'orthopaedic manual therapy' and 'manuscript writing' at certain institutions in India. His current research interests, amongst others, primarily include the development of better assessment methods/tools to quantify sensorimotor control of the knee in relation to whole body movements in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and knee-healthy controls and athletes, and physical activity promotion among sedentary office employees.
