About
Research Focus: To develop understanding of the infectious and rare disease biology with a systems based approach for identifying potential therapeutic interventions and diagnostic approaches.
My Ph.D. focused on prioritizing Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) in disease association studies to identify potential biomarkers. My research on role of SNPs in human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) established that rare variants are disease causing, and lead to development of prediction tools that allows analysis of human mtDNA SNPs towards their role in disease predisposition. In addition, I conceived, designed and implemented crowdsourcing as a tool to tackle challenging scientific problems which is considered futuristic approach to drive big data scientific projects. Over years, my group has published several prediction methods, databases and ontology based barcoding methods for genome variation data towards better understanding of genotype-phenotype correlations towards understanding complex disease phenotypes with mitochondrial dysfunction in addition to building state-of-the-art interactome and reactome for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. I have also developed platforms for data analytics and collaborative learning. My current interests are focused on developing novel algorithms for elucidating correlations of investigational (clinical) data and genomics data for deep phenotyping with specific focus on antimicrobial resistance. My goal is to develop technology platforms to drive innovations and services in the field of biomedical data analytics.
Serving as Editorial board member for Frontiers of Systems Biology and Journal of Genetics. Served as Associated Scientific Advisor to Science Translational Medicine. Selected as one of the four young innovators at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India Social Good Summit, 21st September 2014, IIT-Delhi, Delhi. Selected for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), “Women In Science", by U.S. Department of State, April 8 - April 26, 2013. Won best poster and presentation awards at several international events and had the opportunity to speak at over 100 national and international platforms.
