Educated in Cotton College (B.Sc. Chemistry Honours), Gauhati University (M.Sc. Organic Chemistry & D.Sc. Organic Synthesis), IIT Kharagpur (M.Tech. & Ph.D. High Pressure Technology & Catalysis) and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo (PG Diploma in Organic Synthesis), Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka had an opportunity to work in the Research Group of Prof. EJ Thomas (former Editor-in-Chief Tetrahedron Letters & Presently Editor Journal Chemical Research) as a Commonwealth Visiting Fellow in the University of Manchester, Manchester, UK from Oct/1997 to Sep/1998. He worked as a UNESCO Post-doctoral Fellow in Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo for one year (Oct/1989 to Sep/1990) with Prof. Takeshi Nakai as the mentor. He joined the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University in the year 1991 and continued his services in Teaching and Research till June 2019 when he was offered a new assignment as Vice-Chancellor of Madhabdev University. While his Research Group still continues to work in the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University, Prof. Deka is presently involved in a wide spectrum of academic activities (including teaching, thesis evaluation, research paper reviewer, etc.) in addition to his responsibility as the Vice-Chancellor of a new university. Till now 32 research scholars have been successfully supervised leading to PhD degrees and another four still working. His research interest includes synthetic organic chemistry, biodiesel, traditional alcoholic beverages and natural products chemistry.
