About
Dr. Chinmoy Kumar Hazra was born in Purba Medinipur, India in 1985. He obtained his bachelor in Chemistry from Calcutta University, India. After that he moved to IIT Bombay to pursue his master's study. He joined Germany in 2010 for his Ph.D. study at Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Martin Oestreich, where he focused on copper catalyzed Inter-Element bond (Si-B) activation and development of few reactions such as allylic substitution, propargylic substitution as well as addition reaction . Before finishing his Ph.D., he moved to Strasbourg University, France as a Postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Françoise Colobert in 2013. His area of research mainly focused on the synthesis of axially chiral biaryls through sulfoxide-directed asymmetric mild C−H activation through dynamic kinetic resolution pathway. After finishing his one year contract, he immediately joined Korea Advanced Institute Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea in 2014. He developed Lewis acidic borane-catalyzed synthesis of small molecules including cyclopropanes as well as cyclobutanes under the guidance of prof. Sukbok Chang during his stay in South Korea from 2014-2018. Over the past couple of years, he has contributed towards the development of synthetic methodology including furan conversion. Recently, his work got published as an article titled ‘borane-catalyzed ring-opening and closing cascades of furans leading to silicon-functionalized synthetic valuables’, in the Nature Communications Journal. Through his published work, he made significant contributions towards the development of mechanistic understanding for the synthesis of small molecules . Recently, his research work got published as an article titled ‘reductive carbocyclization of homoallylic alcohols to syn-cyclobutanes by a boron-catalyzed dual ring-closing pathway’, in Angewandte Chemie International Edition Journal.
