About
Dr. R. Prasanna Kumar is an associate professor at the School of Computing, Chennai, with over 25 years of experience in higher education. He is recognized for his expertise across core and emerging areas of computer science, including Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Explainable AI.
Co-Principal Investigator on an internationally funded research project supported by the Government of Canada, titled “Quantum-Enabled Radiogenomics for Multimodal Data Inference,” has been awarded a one year grant of CAD 25,000 under the Alliance International Catalyst Quantum Grants (ALLRP).
His academic grounding spans foundational subjects such as Theory of Computation and Compiler Design through to advanced areas including Machine Learning and Data Analytics, reflecting a career built on both theoretical depth and applied research.
A committed mentor, Dr. Kumar currently supervises ten Ph.D. scholars, has guided four scholars to successful completion, and has overseen numerous M.E. project dissertations—a sustained record of investment in research training and knowledge transfer.
His research has increasingly moved toward interdisciplinary, high impact applications, notably Quantum AI-driven Bioinformatics and responsible AI, including award-winning work on retinal damage detection that bridges rigorous research with societal benefit.
Beyond his core academic responsibilities, Dr. Kumar is a sought after guest lecturer and resource person for faculty development programmes, and has served national and international conferences as a program committee member and session chair.
He also serves as a Board of Studies member for the B.Tech CSE and B.Tech CSE (AIE) programmes at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and for the B.E. CSE and B.E. CSE (CSBS) programmes at Anna University affiliated colleges — reflecting his sustained contribution to curriculum design and academic governance in computer science education.
