About
My research focuses on applying advanced genomic and genetic tools to support sustainable management of marine fisheries, with particular emphasis on climate resilience. My research has strengthened the understanding of the biology, stock structure, and adaptive capacity of commercially important species through genomic and transcriptomic approaches. Notably, the genome sequencing of Indian oil sardine and Asian green mussel has revealed key insights into nutritional traits and disease pathways, informing strategies for sustainable utilization and value addition in fisheries.
My research on climate change impacts has generated actionable knowledge on species distribution, stock dynamics, and resilience, supporting national fisheries management plans and climate adaptation policies. Through molecular marker studies, I have also contributed to biodiversity assessment and species identification, strengthening conservation frameworks in the Indian Ocean region.
As Principal Investigator of major projects, and through capacity-building initiatives, I have played a key role in translating advanced genomic science into practical tools for fisheries governance, resource management, and long-term sustainability. To date, my team has published 73 peer-reviewed papers in reputed journals, 9 books/manuals, 2 policy documents, 27 book chapters, and 10 popular articles and contributed 2,180 GenBank accessions, advancing the frontiers of marine genomics and sustainable fisheries science.
