About
I am Dr. Ayan De, currently working as a Post-Doctoral Fellow under the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. I earned my Ph.D. from the same university, where my doctoral research focused on heavy metal toxicity in groundwater and foodstuffs a critical area with significant implications for public health and environmental safety. My academic journey has been deeply rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world applications. Over the course of my research, I have contributed to more than 27 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including seven as first author in reputed national and international journals. In addition, I hold a patent related to mushroom-based research, reflecting my commitment to innovation in the field of environmental and food safety science. I have actively collaborated with leading academic and research institutions such as Calcutta University, Burdwan University, Presidency University, IISER Kolkata, and the Megh Pyne Abhiyan (a prominent NGO working in the area of water and sanitation). These collaborations have enabled a rich blend of academic rigor and community-centric applications in my research.
During my Ph.D., I was entrusted with key responsibilities in three government-funded projects where I served as both Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF). Additionally, I have successfully mentored four M. Tech students and guided two interns, helping nurture the next generation of researchers. My research interests are now expanding toward emerging contaminants in the packaged food industry, particularly focusing on food safety and toxicological assessment in processed and packed food items a growing concern in both urban and rural consumer markets. I had the opportunity to present my work at the prestigious Goldschmidt Conference 2023 held in Lyon, France, one of the leading conferences in the field of geochemistry and environmental science. My work has also received recognition beyond academia, being featured in both regional and global media platforms such as Ei Samay, Anandabazar Patrika, Millennium Post, and Current Science Reports.
Beyond my academic pursuits, I am an avid food enthusiast who enjoys exploring culinary experiences. I find deep satisfaction in spending quality time with my family and indulging in planting greenery in any available space around me, a personal practice that brings me joy and a sense of environmental responsibility.
