About
Since 2023, I have been working as a Research Scientist at the Center for Materials Under Extreme Environments (CMUXE) at Purdue University. Prior to this appointment, I held positions as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and later as a Senior Research Associate at CMUXE from 2013 to 2019. At present, I lead two interdisciplinary research groups within the center: the Surface Science and Nanostructure Group (SUSNAG) and the Laser–Materials Interaction Group (LMIG).
My research expertise spans a wide array of domains, including surface science and epitaxial growth, heteroepitaxial self-assembled nanostructures, nanomagnetism, spintronics, magnetoresistance (MR), and nanoscale thin films and multilayers. I have a strong focus on two-dimensional (2D) materials, particularly monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), and their application in spintronic devices. My work also involves ion beam-induced synthesis and materials modification, laser and plasma–material interactions, and the development and performance evaluation of advanced materials for nuclear fusion environments.
To date, I have authored or co-authored over 74 scientific publications, including 54 peer-reviewed international journal articles, one book, and more than 16 conference proceedings. I have delivered 28 presentations, 7 of which were invited—at major international conferences and workshops, and contributed over 43 scientific posters.
Before joining Purdue, I held postdoctoral fellowships at Tel Aviv University, Israel (2009–2013), and the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar, India (2007–2008). Additionally, I was a visiting scientist at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany in 2008. I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in 2006.
I am an active member of several professional societies, including the American Physical Society (APS), the Materials Research Society (MRS), The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
My synergistic activities include extensive mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as reviewing scientific manuscripts and proposals. Peer review is an integral part of my academic service—it reinforces my expertise, keeps me current with emerging research, sharpens critical thinking, and contributes meaningfully to the integrity of scientific publishing. I have reviewed more than 200 research articles and several scientific books. Additionally, I serve as a regular reviewer for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and The Pazy Foundation, a joint funding body of the Israeli University Planning and Budgeting Committee (UPBC) and the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC). I have also chaired multiple symposium sessions and served as a judge in scientific competitions at both undergraduate and K–12 levels.
