About
Dr. Harikrishnan Pulikkalparambil is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (SNSNT), Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kerala, India. He earned his Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) in Materials & Production Engineering from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand (2021), specializing in environmentally friendly bioepoxy resins for self-healing applications. His academic background includes an M.Tech. in Polymer Technology from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2016) and a B.Tech. in Polymer Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University (2012). He furthered his research through two postdoctoral fellowships: a 12-month Foreign Postdoctoral Fellowship at KMUTNB (2021–2022) on bio-based fiber composites and a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellowship at Kasetsart University, Thailand (2022), under the Reinventing University Program, focusing on natural fiber-based biopolymer packaging materials. Additionally, he gained international research experience as a Guest Scientist at the Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden, Germany (2019). With nearly two years of industrial experience and over six years of teaching and research experience in India and Thailand, Dr. Harikrishnan has held academic positions at KMUTNB, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, and MGU, serving as a teacher, research supervisor, and curriculum coordinator. His teaching expertise covers nanomaterials, polymer nanocomposites, advanced characterization techniques, polymer compounding and processing, and tyre engineering. Dr. Harikrishnan is actively involved in academic leadership and research coordination, serving as the IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) Coordinator at the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, ensuring academic and research quality. He is also the Nodal Officer for the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) at MGU. He has played a key role in organizing international conferences and symposia, including serving as Coordinator of POLYMERA 2024, Conference Chair for ICRACM 2024, Organizing Committee Member for ICM-2024, and Convenor of NanoFest 2023. Additionally, he led syllabus revision committees for various nanoscience and polymer technology programs. Dr. Harikrishnan has received numerous academic and research awards, including the Best Paper Award—Scientist at the 34th Kerala Science Congress (2022) by KSCSTE, Government of Kerala, the Wiley Top Downloaded Article Award (2024, Polymer Composites), and various research grants and scholarships from Thailand and Germany. He is a life member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Asian Polymer Association, Society for Polymer Science in India, and Indian Plastic Institute. Additionally, he holds memberships in the Indian Rubber Institute, International Association of Engineers, and International Association of Advanced Materials. He also serves as Guest Associate Editor for Frontiers in Materials, Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), Managing Editor for Scopus-indexed journals, and Advisory Board Member for Heliyon Materials Science (Elsevier, 2023). Dr. Harikrishnan’s current research explores biocomposites, antimicrobial coatings, self-healing materials, food packaging, and water purification membranes. He specializes in self-healing coatings, vitrimers, polymer composites, biopolymers, nanostructured materials, sustainable packaging, 3D printing, and water purification membranes. He has made significant contributions to the field, with 39 international journal publications, 12 book chapters, 2 edited books, and 1 granted patent (Thailand, 2023), with 2 more under review. His research impact is reflected in his H-index of 23 (Google Scholar) with over 1,400 citations. His current work includes developing cellulose-based aerogel membranes for microplastic removal, smart food packaging materials, and self-healing epoxy coatings for automotive protective applications.
