Sanjeev Kumar is a Professor of Political Science at Zakir Husain Delhi College, University of Delhi, with over two decades of teaching and research experience. His academic pursuits primarily focus on social and political philosophy, global political thought, vulnerability and disaster, citizenship and rights, peace building and conflict research and Gandhian philosophy.
Prof. Kumar has an impressive repertoire of publications, including books, book chapters, journal articles, newspaper columns, and translations. His works have appeared in renowned platforms such as Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Indian Sociological Review, Gandhi Marg, India Quarterly, APA Studies (American Philosophical Association), The Indian Express, and Employment News Weekly.
A central theme in Prof. Kumar’s academic endeavors is his profound engagement with Gandhian philosophy, underscoring its relevance in fostering peace, equity, and global justice. His critically acclaimed book, Gandhi and the Contemporary World (Routledge, London, 2020), highlights the enduring significance of Gandhi’s principles. His major edited volumes, Political Theory (Orient Blackswan, 2019) and Political Theory (Sage Publications, 2021), have been incorporated into the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF-2022) for the BA (Hons) and BA (Prog) Political Science courses at the University of Delhi. His most recent book, Conflict Resolution in the Twenty-First Century: Ethical and Psychological Dimensions of Gandhi’s Creative Non-Violence, was published by Springer, Singapore, in 2026.
Prof. Kumar has participated in and presented papers at over eighty -five international, national, and regional seminars and conferences across India and abroad. He has held prestigious fellowships, including being a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) and a Fellow at the Developing Countries Research Centre (DCRC), University of Delhi. Currently, he serves as an Honorary Senior Fellow at the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Global Affairs, New Delhi. Additionally, he is a member of the Advisory and Research Committees of the Centre for Global Studies, University of Delhi.
His contributions to academia have been widely recognized. In 2021, Prof. Kumar was honored with the prestigious Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, conferred by Respect India and Hansraj College, University of Delhi. In 2020, Gandhi
Bhavan, University of Delhi, conferred upon him an Award of excellence for his outstanding contributions to promoting Gandhian philosophy across colleges of Delhi University.
