National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, National Institute of Oceanography CSIR, Neuromatch, Kerala Agricultural University
About
Dr. Gopika S. is a climate scientist specializing in climate variability and change, climate model evaluation, and atmosphere–ocean interactions. Her research focuses on separating externally forced climate signals from natural internal variability, understanding signal emergence and signal-to-noise characteristics in climate models, and diagnosing the mechanisms driving regional climate change.
She developed a novel Time of Detection framework to assess climate signal emergence and climate model performance. Her work combines observations, reanalysis products, CMIP ensembles, and ocean model simulations to investigate climate variability, model biases, climate predictability, and tropical ocean warming.
Currently, she is a Project Scientist at NCMRWF, working on coupled climate models, parameterization improvement, model tuning, and studies of rainfall variability, extreme precipitation, and tropical cyclones.
