About

Sudipta Gupta has received his Master’s in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, India. He then performed his doctoral work in the group of Prof. Dieter Richter at the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), Forschungszentrum (research center) Jülich, Germany. He received his Ph.D. with great honor in Physical Chemistry (polymer-based colloidal physics) from the University of Münster, Germany. Following his Ph.D., Sudipta was a postdoctoral researcher at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge, USA. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Louisiana State University (LSU) at the Louisiana Consortium for Neutron Scattering (LaCNS), Baton Rouge, USA. He worked as a Research Associate at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, in the Department of Physics. Following that, he began working for Eurofins Lancaster Laboratory as a Principal Scientist at BioParma, specializing in Biophysical and Materials Science, in West Point, Pennsylvania, USA. Soon after, he started working as a Senior Scientist at Merck. Co. Inc., at the Analytical R&D department at the West Point campus in Pennsylvania, USA.

His research is primarily focused on constrained structure and dynamics in biology and soft matter in Bio-Pharmaceutical applications. It includes complex fluids like vaccines, small molecules, macrocyclic peptides, biological macromolecules, lipid-based nanoparticles, colloids, glasses, polymers, and polymer nanocomposites. To understand the basic interactions governing their nanoscopic structures, which can be manifested in their nanoscopic and macroscopic dynamics, and to establish a structure-property relationship. His primary expertise is in different neutron scattering and spectroscopic techniques (SANS, NSE, Backscattering, TOF, etc.) in concert with X-ray and light scattering, rheology, and dielectric spectroscopy. Among other awards, Sudipta received the fellowship from the International Helmholtz Research School of Biophysics and Soft Matter (IHRS BioSoft) for his Ph.D. research. He has been elected as an SNS-HFIR User Group Executive Committee member at ORNL, USA.
