Kumar, Ashutosh
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
About
Ashutosh Kumar is an eminent scholar and enthusiastic researcher with a focus on environmental science and engineering. His pioneering research revolves around AOPs, LCA, Landfill Gas Emission and Air Quality Dispersion Modelling. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Ashutosh has published over 25 groundbreaking scientific papers which have garnered more than 1900 citations from fellow researchers, highlighting their significant impact on the ground.
Driven by his passion to make a positive impact on the environment, he earned a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering discipline from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and an M.Tech degree in Environmental Management of Rivers and Lakes from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. In recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, he was honored with the highly competitive and prestigious Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Award in 2015.
At HKUST, he developed various low cost visible-light-driven nanophotocatalysts for degradation of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs)/Emerging Chemicals present in sewage. However, during his M.Tech. study at IIT Roorkee, he worked on municipal solid waste to energy conversion assessments for three prominent landfill sites of Delhi. Moreover, he has two years of professional experience in sewage and industrial wastewater treatment in both public and private sectors across India. During his professional experience at Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), he was involved in ambitious Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project (HCIP) which was funded by Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC).
Following the successful completion of his Ph.D. at HKUST, Ashutosh Kumar joined as an Assistant Professor at Department of Energy & Environment, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala. In this role, he imparts his vast knowledge and expertise to students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His teaching approach inspires and encourages the next generation to embrace sustainable practices and contribute to environmental preservation.
