Dr. Ashish Kumar is an esteemed Professor and Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, India, with a distinguished career marked by comprehensive training and exceptional contributions to the field. His Gastroenterology training (DM) was completed at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow in 2004, after which he was mentored by the renowned Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin for five years at G. B. Pant Hospital and the Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS).

Dr. Ashish Kumar is a recipient of prestigious national and international fellowships, including those from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (FNAMS), Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of London & Edinburgh and the American College of Physicians, Philadelphia (FACP), and has also held visiting fellowships at the National Cancer Center in Japan and the University of California, San Francisco, USA.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ashish Kumar is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology and has authored over 245 scientific papers, predominantly published in internationally acclaimed journals such as Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Gut. He has an h-index of 54 and has been recognized globally for his scholarly achievements, being named among the top 2% of scientists in the world by Elsevier and Stanford University consecutively in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Dr. Ashish Kumar holds esteemed positions in various professional bodies, including the Advisory Council of the American College of Physicians (ACP) India Chapter, and is an active member of the Baveno Cooperation on Portal Hypertension. His leadership roles extend to being a Governing Council Member of the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) and a member of several taskforces of INASL and the Asia-Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL). He is notably the lead author of the Indian Guidelines on Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma under the aegis of INASL and has been instrumental in publishing various Treatment Guidelines under INASL, APASL, and ISG.

Dr. Ashish Kumar's research has received critical acclaim, earning multiple prestigious honors, including the Best Paper Award by GRIPMER, the Best Original Article Award by the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, and the ACP India Chapter Clinical Practice Award (2021). He was named Scientist of the Year (2022) by ACP India Chapter and received the India International Healthcare Award (2018) for being The Most Promising Gastroenterologist of the Year in Delhi. His contributions to liver diseases, such as fatty liver, cirrhosis, liver cancer, diabetes-related liver disease, and liver failure, continue to earn him national and international recognition.

As a personal interest, Dr. Ashish Kumar is also deeply fascinated by theoretical physics, particularly in the areas of quantum physics, particle physics, cosmology, and astrobiology.
