About

Dr Sharma is a Bioinformatics Research Scientist at NSW DPI with a research focus on crop genomics. With an educational background in bioinformatics and plant molecular biology, her work at DPI focuses on providing bioinformatics leadership and service around plant genomics and other high-throughput omics approaches for plant breeding. She applies high-throughput sequencing technologies, genomic methods and bioinformatics resources to disentangle the genetic basis of complex agricultural traits in crop plants. Also, she works to identify leads for new genetic gains and characterise germplasms for various important genomics regions for the plant breeding programs, aiming to develop stress-tolerant crop varieties with traits of agricultural importance and high yield.
Her primary research themes are as follows:
1. Harnessing NGS data analytics and bioinformatics for crop improvement
2. Developing new data resources for plant research
3. Integration of multi-layered omics data streams to enhance our understanding of factors determining adaptive and productivity traits in plants
