About
One of the major successes of the current century is the achievement of stable, long-term non-linear numerical evolutions involving black holes. This is followed by the recent astrophysical detections of gravitational waves from merging black holes and other compact objects by LIGO-VIRGO-KAGRA, in which the numerical relativity simulations played a seminal role.
Although the physics of black holes has enticed researchers for decades, most progress in their understanding centres around scenarios involving stationary/static black holes, and perturbations thereof. In astrophysical scenarios such as binary black hole mergers, the black holes exist under the strong gravity influence of each other. They are highly dynamical, especially as they close in towards the merger.
One of my main interests is understanding black holes' physics and astrophysics in such highly dynamical scenarios. I study the physics of black holes and their horizons in dynamical regimes using dynamical horizons and numerical relativity, and their imprints in the gravitational radiation received at infinity where gravitational waves are detected. I am also interested in the associated observational and computational aspects
