About

Natesan Yogesh was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, INDIA in 1985. He received his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Physics from The American College, Madurai Kamaraj University in 2005 and 2007, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in physics from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2013. His doctoral thesis investigated the microwave propagation and confinement in photonic bandgap structures.

From 2013 to 2015, he was a post-doctoral fellow with the Terahertz Technical Research Center, College of Physics and Optoelectronic engineering, Shenzhen University, China. By securing INSPIRE Faculty Award-2015 from the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of INDIA, he worked as an an INSPIRE Faculty in the Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras since 2016-2022.

He joined the National Institute of Technology Calicut as Assistant Professor in 2022 and currently affiliated with NIT Calicut.

His field of research interest includes photonic crystals, metamaterials and terahertz photonic devices. He is the author of more than 34 research articles, two patents and one book chapter. He secured SERB Startup Research Grant 2023 for developing Chiral metasurface-based THz wave components using spatial- and time-modulation.

Some of his scientific accomplishments include THz surface plasmon polariton resonances in Bulk Dirac Semimetals, THz circular Polarizers, source transformation device based on photonic crystals, electromagnetic beam compressor, high quality factor resonators, metamaterial based polarization devices, sensors based on THz surface plasmon polariton, Fano-coupler and surface modes in photonic crystals. Currently he investigates electromagnetic wave interaction in complex photonic structures including metasurfaces and photonic crystals at microwave/THz frequencies.

At NIT Calicut, he is currently guiding three Ph.D students. He also guided 18 M.Sc Final year Projects and 10 B.Tech Final year Projects. He also guided two Student Innovation Projects in 2024 and 2025.

He established a new lab entitled "Metamaterials and Photonic Structures Laboratory" at NIT Calicut in 2024.

He introduced a new course entitled Electromagnetic Simulation Lab using COMSOL and MEEP to B.Tech II year Engineering Physics Students at NIT Calicut.

At NIT Calicut, he taught (teaching) Electromagnetic theory, Electromagnetic Simulation Lab, Electrodynamics, Modern Optics, Photonic Bandstructures, Metamaterials, Electronics Theory and Lab, Analog Electronics theory and Lab, Digital Electronics theory and Lab, and Research Methodology.

He is also be the Faculty in charge of OPTICA Student Chapter at NIT Calicut and Bhauthiki-The Physics Association of NIT Calicut.
