In 1995 I retired from the University Of Texas Health Science Center. I have been very active as Scientific Director of the Path Medical Foundation. Currently, I am co-founder and Chairman, CEO & CSO of IGENE, LLC and Chairman & CSO GENUS Health LLC. My concept of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) is being embraced by world leaders in science and is part of the DSM –5, ASAM and SAGE Encyclopedia of Abnormal Psychology. The seminal DRD2 gene discovery has been confirmed in over 4,291 publications from laboratories all over the world. I serve as Editor-in-Chief Journal of Reward Deficiency Syndrome & Addictive Sciences and Co-EIC with Dr. Badgaiyan of the Journal Neuroimaging in Psychiatry & Neurology. Along with David E. Comings and Gerald Kozlowski and others we are credited with the development of the concept Reward Deficiency Syndrome and the Brain Reward Cascade. I am currently serving on fourteen other prestigious journal’s Editorial Boards. Currently I have been named Volunteer Full Professor of the Western University of Health Sciences Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Pomona CA USA., Adjunct Research Professor, Human Integrated Services Unit University of Vermont Center for Clinical & Translational Science, College of Medicine, Burlington, VT.; Life Time Honorary Professor, Eötvös Loránd University, Institute of Psychology , Budapest , Hungary. I currently serve as Chief Scientific Advisor for Dominion Diagnostics, LLC North Kingstown Rhode Island. I have published over 500 abstracts, chapters and peer-reviewed articles, 15 books, numerous patents and received many awards for the seminal discovery along with Ernest P. Noble of the first confirmed association of the dopamine D2 receptor gene and addiction. I am in some circles considered the Father of “Psychiatric Genetics “and Amino-Acid Therapy for addiction.
I have been retired from a full –time position in Academia since 1995. However, over the cause of my long career, I received funding from NIAAA, NIDA, Foundations, State Government, Local Municipalities, and the Pharmaceutical Industry. I have been actively involved in obtaining US and Foreign Patents, for a number of commercial products. Over the many years of academic research, I have participated as PI or co-PI on a number of RO1 grants. The total grant funds over the years in Academia amounted to 2,798,035.
