About
Dr. Tholkappiyan Ramachandran (Ph.D., MRSC) is a materials physicist and energy researcher currently serving as a Research Scientist in the Department of Physics, Khalifa University of Science and Technology (Abu Dhabi, UAE) (March 2024–present). He has 10+ years of research experience and 7+ years of teaching experience, with interdisciplinary expertise spanning advanced functional materials, electrochemical energy storage, and sustainable energy technologies.
His research focuses on 2D MXenes (Ti₃C₂Tₓ, V₂CTₓ, Nb₂CTₓ), MOF/MXene hybrids, nanostructured metal oxides, and carbon-based electrodes for supercapacitors, lithium-ion and zinc–air batteries, redox-flow systems, and related energy-conversion applications. He also works on photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic materials and has contributed to projects on PV dust/soiling analysis in desert environments and materials engineering for device interfaces.
Dr. Ramachandran has authored 145+ peer-reviewed journal publications, 4+ book chapters, and delivered 5+ invited talks, with 5652+ citations and an h-index of 43. He serves in editorial roles including Academic Editor (Q1-International Journal of Energy Research; Q2-Advances in Condensed Matter Physics) and has acted as a Guest Editor (Energies). He is an active peer reviewer for 100+ journals across leading publishers (ACS, RSC, Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, and others). He has received multiple academic recognitions including best paper/poster awards and was listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Stanford University-recognized) in 2024 and 2025. He is a Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) member and holds a UAE Golden Visa residency.
