About
Sukanta Roy is a doctoral candidate at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida, specializing in Power Systems with Renewables, Microgrid technologies, and Reliability Studies. He brings over a decade of hands-on experience in the power sector, starting his career as a Project Engineer at BanglaCat Limited, a Caterpillar® dealership, in January 2008. During his tenure, Sukanta worked across various departments, including Design & Application, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting, gaining a deep understanding of energy infrastructure across diverse industries and load patterns.
In addition to his professional experience, he holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, during which he was actively involved in research and teaching activities from October 2013 to August 2015. Sukanta’s journey at BanglaCat culminated in his role as a Technical Caterpillar Communicator (Electrical), where he focused on power system commissioning, control system tuning, and remote condition monitoring.
His ongoing research at FIU is centered around power system reliability, high penetration of photovoltaic systems, microgrid applications, and grid-forming inverter modeling. Sukanta has also contributed to sustainability projects, including the Greenhouse Gas Inventory and G2N 2030 Roadmap for the state of Florida.
