About
Dr. Ansari is a Senior Scientist (Agronomy) at the ICAR–Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (ICAR-IIFSR), Modipuram, India. With over 15 years of research and professional experience in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), his work focuses on designing sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural systems that enhance productivity, resource-use efficiency, and ecosystem services.
His primary research interests include Integrated Farming Systems (IFS), organic farming, climate-resilient cropping systems, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem service assessment and valuation, natural resource management, and agricultural extension. He has contributed significantly to developing innovative and resilient farming technologies that improve farm profitability, strengthen livelihood security, and promote sustainable intensification through participatory research and effective technology dissemination.
Dr. Ansari has led several multidisciplinary national and international research initiatives, including the UNEP–TEEB project, "True Value Accounting: Making the Economic Case for Food Systems Transformation in India and Kenya." His research integrates ecological, economic, and social dimensions to support evidence-based policies for sustainable food systems and climate-smart agriculture.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Ansari has published 116 research papers, authored 6 books, contributed 45 book chapters, and documented more than 30 farmer success stories. His work has had a substantial impact on sustainable farming practices, technology commercialization, and capacity building of farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
His scientific contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the ICAR Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Award (2017), ICAR Sahajanand Saraswati Outstanding Extension Scientist Award (2019), ISA Dr. P.S. Deshmukh Young Agronomist Award (2020), IPI–FAI Award (2021), Mosaic Foundation Young Scientist Award (2021), ISA Associateship (2023), and election as Associate Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2025).
Dr. Ansari continues to work towards advancing sustainable and resilient agricultural systems through interdisciplinary research, innovation, policy engagement, and stakeholder partnerships, contributing to national and global efforts in achieving food security, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.
