About
Dr. Abdul Majid Ansari, Ph.D., devoted his academic career to Agriculture, particularly in the field of horticulture, as a Research and Extension worker. Dr. Ansari has been working as a Senior Scientist-cum-Associate Professor at the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. He was selected for the Best Research Worker in 2021 by BAU, Ranchi. Dr. Ansari did his Doctorate in Vegetable Science in 2012 from G. B. Pant University of Agri. & Tech., Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India. He has contributed significantly in the field of vegetable breeding and developed a large number of advanced lines of eggplant, tomato (open and protected cultivation, both), vegetable peas, and three promising genotypes of brinjal have been released from SVRC, Jharkhand, and procuring I/C numbers of 60 breeding lines of brinjal and 29 accessions of Dolichos bean. He has been maintaining a large number of germplasms of different vegetable and fruit crops. He has a vibrant link with farmers by advising them to promote scientific management of horticultural crops. He has received 11 awards for outstanding contributions to their relevant discipline and 15 recognitions from various technical sessions of seminars/symposiums as chairman, co-chairman, rapporteur, etc., from several societies. He has published 48 research papers, 5 review articles, 40 oral/poster presentations, 3 lead paper presentations, 7 books, 9 book chapters, 19 popular articles, 4 leaflets/folders, 64 abstracts, and reviewed several research papers for national and international journals viz., Scientia Horticulturae, Fruits Journal, Agronomy Journal, and Electronic Journal of Plant Breeding. He has delivered 92 lectures in seminars/symposia/conferences/ workshops and recorded 66 TV talks as well as 35 radio talks. Dr. Ansari has been associated with many externally funded projects in different capacities and as Nodal Officer {EAP} in the multi-crore World Bank-ICAR funded project named NAHEP-CAAST-IFS, BAU, Ranchi. He has enrolled as life membership in 12 scientific societies and working as member of the editorial board of 9 national/international journals of agricultural and allied sciences, and participated in 12 refresher courses of horticultural importance. Presently working as Principal Investigator of AICRP on Cashew, Darisai Center, BAU, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.
