About
I am Cyril Shaju, a dedicated researcher and scientist specializing in Earth Sciences, particularly focusing on time series analysis and seismic behavior. My academic journey commenced with a Master's degree in Applied Geology, where I honed my skills in seismology and computation, setting the stage for my in-depth exploration of Earth Sciences.
I proudly earned my Ph.D. from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, where I made substantial contributions to our understanding of seismic trends within the Indian Plate region. My doctoral research revolved around the development of a unique fractal methodology using Driven Iterated Function Systems (IFS) to analyze discrete time series data. This innovative approach not only advanced our comprehension of seismic behavior in the Indian Plate but also found applications in diverse fields, including economics and biosciences.
My research foundation is deeply rooted in the study of time series data through a fractal approach based on driven IFS. I introduced novel tools such as Percentage Chaos Plots (PC Plots) and devised a proximity index for robust statistical comparisons. My utilization of Chaos Game principles through driven IFS in earthquake analysis, especially within the context of the Indian Plate, forms a pivotal aspect of my work. These techniques exhibit versatile applications, expanding the frontiers of fractal-based analysis across various scientific disciplines, including finance and biology.
Currently, I am privileged to serve as a Research Scientist at the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. I actively contribute to the project titled "Establishment of Early Warning Systems for Uttarakhand," sponsored by the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority.
Areas of Interest: Plate Tectonics, Fractals, Iterated Function Systems(IFS), Driven IFS, Chaos Game, Earthquakes.
