About

Dr. Francesco Orsini, is currently employed at the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Bologna as Full Professor. Dr. Orsini is the Chair of the Division on Landscape and Urban Horticulture of the International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS), and the Coordinator of projects H2020-862662 Food Systems in European Cities (www.FoodE.eu) and Horizon Europe tRansformativE fooD valuE Systems reshapInG resilient urban laNdscapes (www.horizon-redesign.eu/).


Qualifications

He owns the title of Doctor of Philosophy in "Science and Technology of food and agriculture productions", (University of Naples, 19/12/2007), with a thesis in English, entitled "Unraveling Salt Stress Tolerance: Physiological, Morphological and Genetic components in Crop Species and Model Plants ".

He owns Master titles in Cooperation for Development in Rural Areas (17/12/2004); Master and Bachelor degree in Agricultural Science and Technology, (19/12/2003, 110/110 cum laude and 19/12/2002, 110/110) both achieved at the University of Padua. He took courses "Training school on urban agriculture" (Athens, 2015), "Vegetable grafting" (Catania University, Italy, 2014), "Basic and Advanced Training on the use of Hortivar" (FAO, Rome, Italy, 2012) , "Basic and Advanced Training on Security in the Field" (FAO, Rome, Italy, 2011), "Modeling crop growth, development and yield" (Pisa University, Italy, 2005), and "Post-harvest of vegetable crops" ( Foggia University, Italy, 2005).

Teaching activities in Italy and abroad

He has carried out activities to support the teaching in the field of horticulture courses at the Universities of Padua, Naples and Bologna, and was co-supervisor of more than 40 dissertations and master. Among the activities related to the teaching include:

- 2016: Organization of intensive training course "Entrepreneurial Urban Agriculture", composed of modules of both frontal and distance education (e-learning) as part of the European project "Urban Green Train" (Erasmus +) coordinated by the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Bologna and in collaboration with South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, RUAF foundation and Agreenium;

- 2015: Organization of the lifelong learning course "Horticulture in Towns for Inclusion and Socialisation" as part of the European project HORTIS (LLP-Grundtvig), coordinated by the Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Bologna and in collaboration with the Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena , Corvinus University of Budapest and Berlin Workstation.

- 2008-2016: Organization of seminars on "Horticulture", "Urban Horticulture", "Plant Physiology", "Floriculture" in the framework of the "Horticulture" courses, "Principles of horticulture and floriculture" and "Vegetable crops" University from Bologna.

- 2012-2016: Organization of seminars on "Urban agriculture" as part of the degree course in "Science and technology for the environment" of the University of Padua.

- 2013-2014: Organization of seminars on "Physiology of horticultural plants" as part of the degree course in Agricultural Biotechnology of the University of Naples.
