About

Dr. Saubashya Sur is an Assistant Professor at Ramananda College, Bankura University, India. He obtained his PhD from the University of North Bengal, India. He acquired substantial postdoctoral research experiences from Linköping University in Sweden, Freie University (Charite University Medical Centre) in Germany, and Umea University in Sweden.

His research expertise is in bioinformatics. He is driven by a keen interest in exploring biological problems through computational tools. He is skilled in sequence analysis, whole genome analysis, comparative genomics, microbial bioinformatics, phylogenetic studies, clinical data analysis, SNP analysis, epigenomics (including ChIP-ChIP, ChIP-seq, microarray, motif analysis, and DNA methylation data), RNA-seq data analysis, NGS dataset analysis, transcriptomics data analysis, genome assembly, and annotation, functional enrichment analysis, proteome analysis, biostatistics, molecular modeling, dynamics, docking, interactome analysis, meta-analysis, network analysis, epitope-based vaccine design, and immune simulation. He is familiar with LINUX and Perl and has knowledge of R.

Currently, his research focuses on:

a) Investigation of non-tuberculous mycobacterial genomes using computational tools in the context of pathogenicity, phylogeny, and lifestyle; b) Designing epitope-based vaccine constructs using immunoinformatics techniques; c) Application of AI and computational methods to design potential drug candidates against pathogenic bacteria.

His previous research includes:

a) Analyzing pathways and networks related to Type 1 diabetes using computational tools; b) Conducting statistical analysis of ‘omics’ and clinical data from Type 1 diabetes patients c) Performing in-silico analysis of SNPs associated with toll-like receptors and lipopolysaccharide binding proteins and their implications on human diseases d) Analyzing epigenetic factors in humans and Drosophila using computational tools e) Understanding the molecular nature of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms through computational approaches and f) Disseminating bioinformatics knowledge.

He has published 54 research papers, with more in the pipeline. He is currently supervising two PhD students one of whom has submitted her thesis. Besides, he has guided many students through their Master’s dissertation theses. He is the Coordinator and Principal Investigator of an ongoing research project funded by DBT, India. Besides, he has also completed an intramural research project.

He has served/serving as a reviewer for the following Journals: Nature Communications, BMC Genomics, Archives of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Genomics, Microbial Genomics, European Journal of Medical Research, Microbiome, BMC Research Notes, Infection Genetics and Evolution, Scientific Reports, BMC Infectious Diseases, In silico Pharmacology, Frontiers in Medicine, OMICS-A Journal of Integrative Biology; International Journal of Computational Microbiology & Medical Ecology; American Journal of Bioinformatics Research; World Journal of Surgical Oncology; International Journal of Modern Botany; Advances in Life Sciences; International Journal of Fundamental & Applied Sciences; Journal of Academic & Industrial Research, American Journal of Biomedical Engineering, Advances in Toxicology and toxic effects

He possesses excellent communication skills and is fluent in English, Bengali, and Hindi, with A2-level proficiency in German and basic knowledge of Swedish. Dr. Sur thrives in multinational, multiethnic, and multicultural environments and is capable of working both independently and as part of a team. He believes in fostering collaborations to facilitate mutual learning.
