About
Professor Arun Kumar is with the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics, IIT Delhi where he joined in 1997. He became Professor in 2008 and has served as Head of Centre for more than 7 years. He obtained the B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD degrees from IIT Kanpur. Thereafter, he was Visiting Researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA before joining IIT Delhi. His research interests are in digital signal processing, underwater and air acoustics applications, human and machine speech communication, and multi-sensor data fusion.
Professor Arun Kumar is an inventor on 10 US patents, all granted. He has guided 16 PhDs and published 160 papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences. He has been project investigator for 72 funded R&D projects from industry and government valued at about Rs. 40 crores. These projects have led to several Technology and Know-how transfers to industry and government. Many of these technologies are deployed in the field and are in practical use.
Professor Arun Kumar has served on several national level technical committees. He is presently on the Executive Committee of Govt. of India’s ambitious National Language Translation Mission whose goal is to develop automatic speech-to-speech translation technologies in all the scheduled languages. He is the Deputy-Editor-in-chief of the IETE Journal of Research. He is also co-founder of a company that develops signal processing and AI based technologies and products for speech based human and machine communication. He is a recipient of the Young Scientist Award of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in the Netherlands. He was awarded the Ram Lal Wadhwa Award of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers in 2022 for “outstanding contributions in the field of Underwater Electronics in the last 10 years”.
