About
I am a Principal Scientist (Scientist- E) in the Physical Oceanography Division at CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa, India, with over 18 years of experience in oceanography. I obtained my Ph.D. in Meteorology and Oceanography from Andhra University in 2014, focusing on the transport and fingerprinting of tarballs along the west coast of India.
My research interests include ocean observations, temperature–salinity variability, oil spill detection, tarball formation, and marine pollution, including microplastics. I lead India’s XBT observational network in the Bay of Bengal and have contributed to multiple projects funded by MoES, ISRO, DST, and MoEF&CC. I also played a key role in establishing the National Oil Spill Fingerprint Laboratory at CSIR-NIO.
I have published over 40 peer-reviewed papers (h-index: 18) and actively supervise Ph.D. students while contributing to national committees on coastal pollution and environmental management.
I am a life member of the Ocean Society of India and the Indian Meteorological Society, and I serve as an editor and reviewer for journals including Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Marine Science.
In addition to research, I am actively involved in teaching as an Assistant Professor at AcSIR, where I teach doctoral-level courses in research methodology, marine pollution, tides, and thermodynamics of the North Indian Ocean. I have also delivered invited talks at national agencies, including the Central Pollution Control Board and the Indian Coast Guard, on the environmental impacts of oil pollution.
