About
Education:
Dr. Pankaj obtained his first academic degree in 2009 as Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. He has lived in Germany for almost 8 years to complete his masters, doctoral and postdoctoral studies. In 2012, he completed his Master of Science degree in Life Science Informatics from University of Bonn, Germany. In 2015, he obtained his doctoral degree in Statistical Genomics from University of Kiel, Germany. His doctoral work was funded by German Research Foundation.
Professional career:
From June 2019, Dr. Yadav is working as an assistant professor in the Bioscience & Bioengineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur. He is also an affiliated faculty at the School of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at IIT Jodhpur. Previously, he has worked as senior data scientist at Reliance Jio, Hyderabad, India, and as research scientist at DuPont, Hyderabad, India. During Nov 2016 – July 2018, he worked as postdoctoral scientist at the well-known German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany. In 2012, he also worked as research assistant at the Helmholtz Research Center, Munich, Germany.
Research work:
His main research interests include statistical genetics, personalized healthcare, multi-omics and deep learning applications in multi-omics. He has rich experience of more than 10 years in performing genome-wide gene-environment interaction studies, method development and integrated multi-omics data analysis. He is involved as principal investigator (PI) in the ‘GenomeIndia’ project funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GOI. At DKFZ, he worked to draw statistical inferences from multiple myeloma cancer datasets obtained from various hospitals in Germany and UK. At Helmholtz Center, Munich, he worked on developing machine learning algorithm for quantitative structure activity relationship analysis. His work has been published in peer reviewed international journals. He has contributed to several international conferences, seminars and workshops. Dr. Yadav is serving as invited review editor in International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries and Frontiers in Genetics.
Awards & honours:
Dr. Yadav is recipient of undergraduate scholarship from Panjab University to pursue his degree in Bachelor of Engineering. His received German Research Foundation fellowship to complete is doctoral studies. He is recipient of Deutsche Krebshilfe postdoctoral fellowship. In 2018, he was bestowed with prestigious INSPIRE faculty award given by Indian National Science Academy (INSA). In year 2019, he received “returning expert” award from German Development Cooperation (GIZ). In 2023, he was offered a travel award by Human Cell Atlas (HCA) for presenting his research work at HCA Asia meeting. In the same year (2023), his project was selected for scientific high level visiting fellowship (SSHN) by French Institute in India, Embassy of France. Dr. Yadav is actively participating in sports activities; he earned a Gold medal in Volleyball (role: team captain) in the Inter-IIT staff sports meet held at IIT Gandhinagar.
