About
Dr. Bapan Adak is a Researcher at Kyoto University (Japan) working in the area of 'high barrier, smart and sustainable flexible food packaging materials’, under prestigious JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship. Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the School of Material Science and Engineering of Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) for one and a half years. He graduated in 2010 with BTech in Textile Technology from West Bengal University of Technology (India). He received his MTech degree (in Fibre Science and Technology) and Ph.D. (in Material Science and Engineering/Polymer Science and Engineering/Technical Textile) both from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (India), in 2015 and 2019, respectively. His PhD work was on multifunctional polyurethane nanocomposite films and multi-layered laminates, targeting application in Aerostat Envelope which is used for defense purpose (under a project sponsored by ADRDE, Agra, DRDO). Based on his doctoral research, he got ‘Distinction Award’, three International Travel Awards for presenting at overseas conferences, conducted industrial trials and successfully transferred the technology. He has almost six years of industrial experience at the managerial level, focusing on product development and manufacturing in the fields of polymer coated and laminated technical textiles and textile chemical processing, where he developed several products for a wide range of applications including military and defense, aeronautical, biomedical, outdoors, industrial and many other fields. He has filed 1 Indian patent, published 30+ papers in peer-reviewed journals (mostly high-impact journals in Elsevier, ACS, RSC, Springer-Nature, and Wiley), authored 1 book, edited 1 book, written 14 book chapters (international publishers), presented at 14 conferences [including four overseas conferences] and participated many other renowned conferences/workshops. He authored a book titled "Single-Polymer Composite" (Publisher: CRC Press + Taylor & Francis) and edited another book titled "Smart and Functional Textiles" (De Gruyter). His research interests include polymeric nanocomposites (synthesis and application), 2D nanomaterials, functional and smart textiles, wearable electronics, thermoregulating textiles, coated and laminated materials, 3D printing, flexible food packaging, and sustainable materials/technologies.
