About

Prof. Shivani Bhardwaj Mishra is currently working as Director, Academy of Nanotechnology and water innovations, a Non-profit company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Prof. Mishra accomplished her PhD in Chemistry in 2003 from Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India where her research theme was based on treatment and utilization of industrial waste. Prior to this, she obtained her a first class MSc in organic chemistry and BSc chemistry from University of Madras, Chennai, India. After her PhD, she took up the position of Senior Research Fellow [2002-2005] at National Physical Lab, CSIR, New Delhi. Later in 2005, she joined the University of Free State, South Africa for Postdoctoral studies where she gained experience in the area of developing polymer composites/nanocomposites and studying the material properties. She joined the Department of Chemical Technology in 2008, as a postdoctoral fellow and applied her skill onto developing nanocomposites for water treatment. She was offered the position of Senior Lecturer in the same department in 2009 and, she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012 in the same department. She joined University of South Africa in 2015 as a Full Professor in the Nanotechnology and water sustainability unit. So far, she has published 106 research articles in scientifically accredited international journals, 40 book chapters. She has made over and above 80 presentations at various national and international conferences and edited two books and few more are in pipeline. She has supervised more than 30 postgraduate students including postdoctoral fellows, Master’s and Doctoral students. She was facilitated with DST’s Woman in Science award for the second runner up position. She is a “Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry”. She was awarded Women in research leadership in 2019 by Unisa. She was also recognised as Top 10 researchers of University of Johannesburg and this year she was one of the Unisa’s CSET (College of science engineering and technology) Awardees for excellence in research and innovation at the Research Awards Ceremony.
