I am Professor A. Roja Rani, Post-Doc, USA Fellow Telangana Academy of Science, Member, American association for advancement in science Active Member, American Association for Cancer Research. I did my graduation and Master’s Degree is from Osmania university, I completed my Ph. D from Hyderabad Central University. My Post-Doctoral Degree is from, USA, I am Active Member in American association of cancer research (AACR), I worked as Principal, University College for Women, Koti, Hyderabad, Telangana, from June, 4th 2018- July 5th 2021. I worked as visiting faculty for my post-doctoral Research in University of south Alabama, USA on alylisothiocyanides and their effect on small cell lung cancer cell lines.
I established a mammalian cell culture facility under the DST-SERB project for which I was trained in the USA during my Post-Doctoral studies. I established (1) Plant Genetics Molecular biology lab and (2) Mammalian cell culture labs under DST-SERB project which are under my leadership. My research interest is plant biochemistry, I worked on expression of drought tolerant genes on crop plant Arachis hypogea. L. I Standardized Tissue culture and Regeneration protocols for Aloe ferox eand stablished tissue culture work for plant transformation for stress tolerance in Arachis Hypogea.
My areas of research interest which I am working include cancer biology, qualitative and quantitative assessment of biochemical compounds extracted from medicinal plants and to test their medicinal properties against Cancer, Epilepsy cardiomyopathy and diabetes. We (research team) investigated on new Dot blot technique for identifying cancer cells in the bloodstream for which we have been granted with two patents recently and published the same in the Nature group of Journals, one more patent pending with ICMR for presentation, and two more in pipeline. Total five patents are published.
organized several national conferences and workshops. I completed UGC-MRP, CPEPA, DS-PURSE and DST-SERB-funded projects. Twelve students have been awarded with PhD degree under my guidance. Four of them have recently submitted their thesis and six Indian students and three foreign students are registered to work for their PhD degree under my guidance. To my credit I published 83 publications in international journals. I am an active member of American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) United States of America (USA) and member in American association for advancement in Science (AAAS). I am life member Indian Science Congress Association, Life member in Society for Neurochemistry, Life member in OWSD, Life member in Laboratory Animal Scientist’s Association (LASA), INDIA. I have edited B.Sc. I&II Sem Biotechnology textbook published by Telugu Academy, Hyderabad, and editor of B.Sc. third year Sem-V Economic Botany and published three book chapters. I visited Singapore and USA for my scientific paper presentations.
I joined Department of Genetics as assistant professor in the year 1997, promote as associate professor in the year 2009 and as professor in the year 2012. I performed several administrative positions, to name a few Head, Department of Genetics, Chairperson board of studies for Genetics, Coordinator for Biotechnology, Chairperson board of studies for Biotechnology, Director SC/ST cell, Principal University college for women, Koti.
As Head, Department of Genetics major work done by me was Decommissioning of radio-isotope emission equipment with the help of BRIT and Bark from the Department of Genetics which was installed 40 years ago for mutation experiments. As Head I also conducted and encouraged students for swatch Bharath, celebrating National environment day and regular blood donation camps.
As principal University college for women for three years I conducted two convocations for undergraduate students for two consecutive years for which I Invited Honorable vice-president of India Venkaiah Naidu in 2018. I Invited Honorable Governor of Telangana Tamil Sai Sundararajan for convacatin-2019. Apart from national and state festivals I have conducted several awareness and developmental programs as, International Yoga Day, Survey on Digital Eye Strain, Anti-Drug Abuse awareness progress, Haritha Haram and Making of Eco- friendly Ganesha by students by eco-club, Awareness Programme on Cyber Crime, A bridge educational program for PG students of all Life Sciences, NIN (National instate of Nutrition) camp to improve health of girl students.
