About

I am an Assistant Professor of the Department of Botany of Jagannath University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I have completed my Bachelor and Master’s studies from the Department of Botany of University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. My Master’s thesis was on ‘Genetic and molecular investigation of mutants of Neurospora crassa induced with UV ray and extract of some medicinal plants’. Later on, I started genetic and phytoremediation study of rice, wheat and Indian mustard at Jagannath University.

I have completed my PhD research (2018-2022) at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) of the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. My PhD research was on ‘The development of purple-pericarp super-sweetcorn’. I was awarded the University of Queensland Research Training Tuition Fee and Living Stipend Scholarships to pursue my PhD research. I have developed world-first purple-pericarp super-sweetcorn based on the shrunken-2 gene by successful five field experiments at Gatton, Queensland in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively. In parallel to the fieldwork research activities, I have also been completed biochemical (anthocyanin and sugar profiling), molecular (DNA extraction, SSR marker assay, PCR, Gel electrophoresis) and genomics (whole genome sequenced data analysis to unveil the molecular mechanism of the novel anthocyanin-rich purple sweetcorn) studies as part of my PhD research.

For this research, I achieved 'Discovery and Innovation Award' under '2020 Excellence Awards' from QAAFI, UQ in Dec 2020. Moreover, I have achieved ‘QAAFI Travel Award’ for participation and presentation of my work at ‘16th Australasian Plant breeding Conference’ held on 09-11 May 2022, Gold Coast, Australia. I was honoured as a best oral presenter at a symposium organised by QSA, QAAFI, The University of Queensland (UQ) Australia in 2022 and 2021. I have achieved ‘Scholarship Award’ to present a poster at ‘Plant Genomes, Systems Biology and Engineering Meeting’ in December, 2021, USA. I was also one of the finalists of 'UQ 3MT PhD competition' as well as 'Falling Wall Lab Queensland competition' of 2021.

As part of my teaching as well as research career I have participated in various national and international conferences, presented papers and published some peer-reviewed articles in renowned journals.
